Words of Wisdom

Today Molly and I were cleaning out some things just getting ready for the arrival of the baby boy and I found a canvas bag that I had set aside a number of months ago.

It was from my grandmother… I pulled the papers out, and on top was a manilla folder with my name on it. I don’t really know how it got there or if someone else put these in that folder with my name on it. I opened it up and found a single sheet of paper with about a dozen little sayings that she felt important enough to write down.

“The best things in life aren’t things.”

“Sometimes the best helping hand you can give is a good, firm push.”

“Some cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go.”

“You test the depth of the water with both feet.”

“Learning from your mistakes is smart. Learning from the mistakes of others is wise.”

“If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.”

“If you tell the truth, you don’t have to remember anything.”

“If you’re going through hell, keep going.”

“Examine what is said, not who speaks.”

“Don’t tell me how hard you work. Tell me how much you get done.”

So I decided that these needed to live on somewhere other than a piece of paper that I’m bound to lose, and I sat down to type these out and staring me in the face, it was 11:11 AM.

Thanks for checking in, Mimi. ūüôā

I wreck house… and now officially high tech!

John here.¬† Look at what I’ve done…. the blogosphere handicapped person that I am!¬†

I just made and posted this on YouTube and figured out how the heck to embed the video here.¬† If you were keeping up with me on Twitter (johnnybwicz) you will see that I have been more impressed with my wife’s blog posts.¬†

I take it back.¬† I’m way more impressed with my video.

Here’s the link if the video below doesn’t work.

The Final Countdown… 14 days to be out of the apartment!

Something we haven’t mentioned yet… ¬†we’re supposed to be out of our apartment at the end of March. ¬†Those pictures are what the house looks like right now.

It’s business time…. Like pull out your business socks kind of business time.

We’re going to probably hire out the painting getting a last estimate tomorrow and we’ll be set. ¬†More on that topic tomorrow…

PICTURES… finally

Here are some pictures of how it looked before, and we’ll be posting some better examples of the whole room soon.

Linoleum and Ceramic Learnings

So Molly walked me through how to acutally do my own entries now, so off we go…

Recently, we finished getting the linoleum and ceramic tile off the floor.  Here are some notes for anyone with the unhappy task of removing the two most difficult floorings I can think of for future reference.

Linoleum Notes

  • Don’t fool yourself into thinking that the money you’ll save¬†by¬†using¬†a hand scraper is worth it.¬† Rent a floor stripper.¬† (Less than 75 bucks.)¬†If you don’t believe me… fine.¬† I’m positive that every muscle in your body,¬†(many of which¬†you¬†never knew existed) will¬†see it my way.
  • Buy a file, and keep the blade on the floor stripper sharpend.¬† They go dull so quickly, it’s not possible to buy enough blades to do the job right.¬† It’s a little tricky to explain on a blog, but sharpening the blade is really easy and I’ll tell you how if you want to know.

Ceramic Tile Removal

  • FOUR WORDS…¬† AIR COMPRESSOR / AIR HAMMER.¬†¬† They’re well worth the investment.¬† You’ll need about a five or six gallon air compressor.
  • Don’t buy a 3 pound hammer and a chisel.¬†¬†Your arms, hands, and your finger that you didn’t smash will thank you.¬†
